Because there are so few textbooks available for learning Khmer. many students purchase this book thinking that it will be sufficient as an introduction to the language. However, because it teaches primarily colloquial terms and expressions, it is not the best choice for learning the language properly. In fact, many of the expressions used in the book could be considered rude if you were speaking with someone of higher social status in Cambodia. Saying that though, this book is ideal for the student with a solid foundation of academic Khmer, but limited exposure to colloquial expressions. The first couple of chapters might also be useful to a tourist who is interested in basic words required for negotiating at the markets and giving directions to various sites.
